I am currently planning on some changes that I want to make with
Bootless Star, but I also have my mind set one big change that will affect those that download the
Doom Builder 2,
GZDoom Builder, and
Doom Builder 64 SVN builds -- and that change alone is expunging the ./setup directory which houses the the fundamental prerequisites -
SlimDX and
NET3. However, I would like to hear some opinions from everyone regarding their stance on whether this change should take effect or not.
Positives:
- Smaller in size
- Example: [Based on Revision 1702 in Doombuilder]
Code: Select all
Nicholas Gautier@Morgenrott /cygdrive/I/Bootless Star/Compiled Projects/GZDoom Builder
$ lls
total 24208

562949953421361 d---------+ 1 Nicholas Gautier None 0 Feb 14 13:30 ..
844424930132195 ----------+ 1 Nicholas Gautier None 5808380 Feb 14 13:32 GZDoom Builder (r1702)_OmittingSetup.7z
844424930132194 ----------+ 1 Nicholas Gautier None 18959534 Feb 14 13:31 GZDoom Builder (r1702)_WithSetup.7z
- The size with the setup directory: 18959534 bytes or ~ 19 Megabytes
- The size without the setup directory: 5808380 bytes or ~ 6 Megabytes
- Less wasted space or wasted resources
- Less time needed to download (or upload in my case)
Negatives:
- Those that do not have the prerequisites will not be able to easily install them without having to read other sources (such as: [1] [2] [3] for example)
- Can not easily upgrade to newer version by directly referring to the setup directory.
