Go ahead and merge this in when you're ready.

I did a pull against master on my local copy of this branch, and there are no conflicts, so far everything seems to be working - successful compile, game works just fine.

For the scripting stuff the response was lukewarm at best so I do not think it will go forward outside of experimentation.
