Sprites billboarding

Post by Mathuzzz »

Greetings to all Doom fans,

as a long time fan of Doom/Heretic/Hexen I always wanted to do some mapping for the games but I always gave up after a short time. Now however, when I see the possibilities of modern ports, I am really anxious to try it once again. I would go with Zdoom, however advanced architecture which GZdoom allows is tempting. The problem I have with it are sprites. There are 2 options. They will either be billboarded, which looks very funny when you look right from above or they will be flat. Unfortunately, neither of these I find satisfying. Is there some other solution to this? For example, is there option to limit angle which you can look into? So you won´t be allowed to look 90 up/down, but only 60 so the billboarding would not be that obvious?

Right now there is not. This may change, however, if I get the right idea to do it.
