error starting gzdoom on linux

Hi,

I'm trying to compile gzdoom development build on ubuntu 16.04 following this guide:

http://zdoom.org/wiki/Compile_GZDoom_on_Linux

I've done it many times before and everything worked.

Now on ubuntu 16.04 on my desktop machine compile process succeeded but I get these errors after launching generated ./gzdoom file:

EE ../../../../../src/gallium/drivers/r600/r600_shader.c:183 r600_pipe_shader_create - translation from TGSI failed !
EE ../../../../../src/gallium/drivers/r600/r600_state_common.c:826 r600_shader_select - Failed to build shader variant (type=1) -1

On my 2 laptops with ubuntu 16.04 everything is fine . There are nvidia 840m and any intel integrated gpu in these laptops.

Desktop PC has ATI 5670 gpu. In ubuntu 16.04 there is no more fglrx graphic driver but only open source driver. Could this be the cause of it? When I compile older gzdoom 1.8.6 it works again. Is there a way to use development version of gzdoom on my desktop?

The error messages sound like the shader support on that driver is broken.

It's not clear what happens after those errors have been printed. Crash? Black screen/window? Corrupted image?

last 2 lines are endless repeating and there is black screen window

It's too bad that the driver is less than helpful in pointing out what might cause the problem. The startup info suggests that it should be able to run a GL 3.x context but apparently it doesn't. Is this crappy driver really the only one you can use? That graphics card you have should easily be capable of running OpenGL 4.0 with proper driver support.

There is no proprietary fglrx driver anymore. Afaik there is only radeon driver for my graphic card. Amdgpu driver is for newer cards. You are right. If this means that this driver isn't able to run GL3 it is really bad. If there is any other solution I don't know about it.

So this is a result of AMD's typical deprecation of older hardware? What a pity.

BTW, I added a check to force this particular driver down to 2.1, so in the future the -glversion parameter can be omitted.

I am afraid it is a bug in this open source driver which is very old so it is possible there will be no fix in the future.

Well it is open source. That means it can be fixed. What I would do is search for your driver, and see if there are any "update" projects hosted anywhere. If there is, it may be worth compiling and installing a new one.

Make sure it is compatible with your kernel (most usually are, very little worry, but never hurts to check).

That graphics card is 7-8 years old. It may be fixable but the main problem may just be that nobody is interested in it anymore because it doesn't support current graphics standards.
I think it says a lot that only a GL 3.0 driver is available for something that officially supports GL 4.
