why does it lock up every time I die

Doesn't do that for me. Are you running with any mods that might be doing something unusual when you die (like running a death script or something)?

Why, when the v1.18 is already available?
Because, if you are like me, playing a bunch of wads at the same time, with megawads not played until the end, you are not able to use the v1.18 (not compatible version with the one used to play)
