Umm, yeah, I gotta agree with Graf here on this one. If you're complaining about those things, then you should not be using Linux.
I've been using Linux for a couple years here now, and have never found these to be a problem. A bit frustrating, at first, but you learn to deal with it and you learn how to make things easier on yourself as you get more used to the darned thing.

Re: GZDoom 1.4.2 released
That's probably with all the metadata SVN sends along. If you make an export, which is enough to compile you shouldn't get that. All you'd have then is the contents of the old source archives.

Re: GZDoom 1.4.2 released
On both my ATI laptop and NVIDIA desktop ? The error is on both system. Maybe fedora7 is too old.
Might try updating the Nvidia GL driver (Linux-177.??) sometime.
Gonna use Zdoom-2.4.1 for now. Got it going ok. Cheers

You are obviously not the right person for Linux if this blocks your compiling attempts.
And obviously your system is too old. At least the C headers that come with it are. This missing symbol comes from a relatively recent GL extension so if you want to compile you'll have to update your GL headers. Get them at www.opengl.org.
