Cone-shaped dynamic light?

Post by LukeGevaerts »

In before "oh God not another one of these"?

In an ideal world, dynamic lights wouldn't clip right through everything. I've read up on why this is, however, and I understand that it's not really feasible to fix it. I also understand that Graf Zahl is no longer actively developing GZDoom, which is why I'm not really expecting anything out of this question. But hey - it never hurts to ask, right?

Would it be within the realm of possibility to add a cone-shaped dynamic light to the existing library? It could be the same in nature as the spherical dynamic light, clipping right through everything, but - well, minus three quarters, shining a cone of light in the direction of the thing's angle. I have no idea how difficult this would be, but I do know that it would add another tool to the mapper's toolbox.

Thank you for your time.

1) The Feature Suggestions forum is closed for good reasons

2) No, the Doom engine's concept of geometry is far too primitive for any kind of advanced lighting model.
