Brightmaps for textures

I was looking through ZDoom Wiki and hidden away in the gldefs section I came across the brightmaps feature, which I always wanted to use.
Well it specifies that it can be applied to sprites, but could it also be used for textures?

Yes.

Enjay even made a brightmap pack for Doom and Doom 2 textures.
