Hey, I may have an idea of making it a little scarier.
Make the pentagram that appears on screen a little bigger, additive or translucent render, fade in quickly and out slower instead of appearing, and have a nice scary sound to go with it.
If you have doom3, look through the pk4 files for one.

Don't worry, that's not the first time something like this happens. I remember a review of one of Enjay's mods in which there were several screenshots of models made in software mode -- that is to say, the models were shown as their placeholder sprite instead. So the screenshots were full of his two-faced moon avatar...
