Paranoid: Part Deux

Post by Rex Claussen »

The Team has begun work on a two-part expansion pack for Paranoid. The first part, which is well under way, is a 2-map add-on that uses only DooM textures, decorations, and enemies, but which uses Paranoid weapons. All mapping for the first map of this 2-map wad is complete, and about half the mapping for the second map is done. The second part of the expansion pack is currently planned as a 3-map hub with the continuing adventures of Dr. Rolf Bellmer. Mapping for one of the three maps is about halfway done. The hub will include some new gameplay elements, among which is probably going to be team behavior among the enemies. Screenshots soon.

In addition, as a result of a suggestion on the ZDooM forums, we may consider doing some maps with Paranoid enemies but DooM weapons. The most notable DooM weapons without similar equivalents in Paranoid, of course, are the plasma rifle and BFG. I generally tend to shy away from including the BFG in any of my maps, but the plasma rifle has always been a favorite of mine. We'll see.

I realize this is a super bump, but I figured I ought to report on the "deux" aspect of the "Part Deux" mentioned in my post above. Here are the salient points:

1. The name of the expansion pack is Paranoiac (but the file will take the name Paranoic to stay within the 8-character DOS limit that idgames requires).
2. It will have 7 regular maps, a brand new TITLEMAP, and 2 secret maps.
3. It will have some new textures, new models, new enemies, and new weapons (assuming DBT has the time to create them).
4. Major progress has been made on mapping: Map10 100% complete; Map11 90% complete; Map12 50% complete; Map13 0% complete; Map14 80% complete; Map15 0% complete; Map16 90% complete; Map31 Mapping 100% complete/gameplay 20% complete; Map32 Mapping 100% complete/gameplay 20% complete.
5. There will be a wide variety of environments - canyons, hilly terrain, sewers, offices/garage, labs, etc.
6. New music, some of which has already been composed.

Screenshots are forthcoming.

Oh, and it's been almost exactly 2 years since Paranoid was released.

Where does the time go? Hard to believe it's been that long. :P

Well ... more, obviously, now ... sorry about the mega bump.

New stuff the sequel will feature include:
  • 1. Terrain-based areas, with at least one entire map consisting of expansive landscapes (Mapping complete)
    2. Office areas including a new multi-storey parking garage (Mapping complete)
    3. Freezer (damaging if you stay in too long) as part of lab areas (Mapping complete)
    4. New lab areas, including new models
    5. New enemies. (Already created by DBT)
    6. (Possibly) New weapon(s)
    7. New music (much of which has already been done by Jeff Ligda)
    8. New TITLEMAP (Mapping complete)
    9. 7 new maps + TITLEMAP. Mapping complete on 5 maps & TITLEMAP, partially complete on one map, and 0% on the 7th map.
Screenshots will (eventually) arrive. Heh.

[Eruanna/Enjay, I vaguely remember being told that the "public" part of the Persecution Complex would not be public any more after the creation/merging of the other sub-forums. Is this correct? In other words, the public will not be able to see this post?]

Not unless you request it.

If you need to know what is public and what isn't, you can use an alternate browser (such as internet explorer) without using your login credentials and browse side-by-side to see what sections of the forum you can activate and what are hidden. If you have them both logged in be sure to log out of at least one of them.

I just checked, and The Persecution Complex has a public forum, and so does Paranoiac (although the single post there does not belong in a public forum).

Any particular place you want it? The reason for the thread seems pretty much resolved. The resolved feedback forum?

That will work. It might even be fine to delete it altogether.

'tis done.

As a general policy, moving or locking of threads is preferable to deletion simply to preserve a copy of whatever has been said for a variety of reasons. I know that there probably isn't anything of continued value in the thread in question but there is no real reason to delete it either.
