[Feature Request] Doom-Like lighting

Post by wildweasel »

One of the things that I liked about EDGE 1.29 RC2 was the Doom-like lighting option. With this enabled, the GL renderer has a kind of fog enabled that acts more closely to the original software colormap-based lighting system. Any chance of that being implemented?

I'm already doing it. The lighting system I use is a combination of real sector lighting and Doom-style fogging.
The problem is that when I try to emulate Doom as closely as possible the fog gets too dark for larger distances so I had to compromise a little and have it brighter.

Okay, this sounds very promising.

Yay, maybe ATI car won't slaughter this like they slaughter depth fog. Unless they're basically the same thing...

I can't say. I can't find source release on the EDGE site for the latest version so I can't examine whether it would bring any improvements. Until that changes it isn't worth thinking about.
