Secondly, keep in mind that DRD Team is moderated, like it or not, so proper language is requested and any deviation from proper social behavior is definitely not recommended.
Thirdly, individuals causing trouble will be warned at least twice to stop, and then they'll be banned out if all else fails. And that pretty much wraps it. I won't appeal bans, because if you haven't learned your lesson by the time you've earned your third warning, you obviously have no reason to stay.
Finally, the moderators are very friendly people, like everyone else, if you are friendly to them and everyone else for that matter. Quid pro quo.
Global Moderators of DRDTeam - Not necessarily need to learn about us, but it'll certainly help and you can never know too many people.
- Grubber-the site admin. He doesn't moderate much, but all technical, maintenancial things are to be reported to him and no one else.
- Wildweasel-Probably the most active moderator, Weasel can be friendly, but only if you're friendly in return. If something offends him, then there's probably a damned good reason for it!
- Paul-Moderator who is lenient at couple first times the deliquent is causing trouble, but there's one thing he surely hates- flaming. If you have questions considering editing for (G)Zdoom or mapping-he's the guy. If he's around anymore.
- SoulPriestess-The current site operator, SP's been taking the initiative on keeping this place tight and orderly. Like any benevolent-ish dictator, ask SP anything you like and you'll likely get a prompt answer. But when it comes down to it, SP is still an admin and every bit as capable of doling out justice when needed.
- Individual moderators of their sub-forums (Graf Zahl, et al) are also perfectly capable of moderating their own forums and are guardians of rules.
- There are to be no objectionable posts - i.e. pornography, very graphic violence (outside of video game screenshots or movies), or "shock sites" like mentioned in this Wikipedia article.
- A corollary to the above: don't post that kind of content as an avatar either. So no naked people in your avatars, everyone.
- We do not tolerate the free distribution of warez, ROMs, illegal music, torrents (aside from legal material), or other pirated materials. In other words, don't post asking for a Doom 2 IWAD (tip: if you need one and can't pay, check out Freedoom).
- No spamming or trolling. Spamming goes both ways - don't make your first post on this forum a cheap plug for some other website or product, and don't post the same thing in multiple forums (whatever your motive). Trolling, or flamebaiting, goes for saying something to make another person attack you.
- If an admin moved, edited or deleted your message, there is probably a good reason behind it - so don't just post it again. If a discussion was locked for any reason, don't start another thread "continuing" it, because that is probably going to be locked too.
- Do not attempt to hack in to the forums, webspaces, or anything on the DRD Team servers. Attempts of such will be treated without any compromises and WILL including real life consequences. It's very easy to track down an individual by his IP. You have been warned.
- If you've been banned, registering a second account for yourself is a bad idea and could probably get you banned again, however, if you want to post on the forum so badly that you're ban evading, keep in mind the moderators will keep a closer eye on you. A minor mis-step from a ban-evader will result in IP-banning. If you still manage to get by that sort of ban, expect to hear from your ISP, because this sort of thing will not go unpunished.
- If you don't post anything for a month after registration, your account will be deleted.
- Keep your posts and comments civilized. Do not flame other users - everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however much it differs from your own. There is no excuse for flaming anyone, in any form (words, images, audio files, or even PMs). This goes double for threads-keep them logical and civilized, so no "story gaems" please.
- In addition to the above, don't be an ass. That is: try not to act too sarcastic nor keep laughing people off no matter what they say.
- Don't be a lamer. By that I mean don't say you suck at something and are not good at anything, and you hate your life and such. It's not everyone must love themselves, let's not get to extremes now please, but in the least have some faith in yourself. Also don't be a lam0r, saying you'll hack the entire place. Such an attitude is childish and stupid.
- Don't be a moron. It's ok if you throw an occasional post with a strike of geeky humour, but keep your posts civilized most of the time. Unlike other forums, public opinion DOES matter here, so there is probably a good reason if you're disliked by too many people on the boards, and that will be taken into account when considering getting yourself kicked out of here for excessive irrational behavior.
- When posting your project have SOMETHING to show for Christ's sake. Don't come in saying you're planning a new game that will beat everything you've ever seen so far. If you haven't started mapping yet, at least show some resources, or concept art, or at least the storyline. If you want to talk about vaporwarez go join some IRC channel where people would be interested in it. We're not. Too many projects failed.
- Try to respect people's work (wads, scripts, graphics, audio) even if it's crap. Don't bash it without providing a reason first and keep it civilized (i.e. non-aggressive)
- When posting a thread with several images, it may be wise to put a warning in the thread's description field so 56k users will know that there are lots of pictures, and so Weasel's browser doesn't crash trying to look at it.
- Please speak in clear, coherent English - we understand that some people may not speak English as their first language, so please keep them in mind when posting. Excessive l33t-speak, SMS-speak, or typing your post in an accent will make it hard for non-native speakers to understand you. While I'm not against people speaking in other languages on here, this is primarily an English forum, and I need to be sure that you're not discussing where to find the best drug deals in your native language. =P
- "Reviving" dead discussions will probably get you yelled at - there is likely a reason why nobody has posted in a given thread for over a month. If you want to bump a thread be sure to have a very good reason for it or it'll just get locked.
- Be careful about derailing threads. It may be confusing to look at a thread about somebody's project and see it changed into a source port war.
- Try to post in the right forum. If there doesn't seem to be a specific place for what you're posting, ask yourself this: does it have anything to do with Doom or the DRD Team? If yes, use General. If no, use Off-Topic.
- We are perfectly capable of doing our jobs as administrators - backseat moderating may be generally frowned upon. We're also content with the current level of moderation for the forums, so please don't ask to become a mod/admin.
- Be sure to report any posts that break the above rules to a forum administrator or moderator with a private message or the "Report to mod" button.
- If you have problems with the forum, please be sure to let us know so we can fix it as soon as possible. Otherwise, try another browser and see if that works.
- We can't keep a constant watch on the forums. Most of us have jobs or classes and can't waste much time keeping an eye out for trouble. If a problem has gone on longer than you expect after reporting the issue to an admin, just be patient.
- If you have a good idea to improve the forums, don't hesitate to let us know. We might just add it in.
- When you reply to a topic, make sure your post contributes to the discussion - if you agree to what's being said, don't just say "I agree" - tell people why you agree. Make a few points of your own. Rule of thumb: if your post is less than ten words long, think about why you're actually posting, then ask yourself if it's really necessary to say it.
- Don't apply for becoming a member of the DRD Team member. If one of existing members decides it's a good choice to place you among the team members-you will know about it.
- Any technical issues are to be reported to DRDTeam's admins, Grubber or SoulPriestess, who are also the technical maintainers of the entire domain and it's hostees. If it's just a forums issue, WildWeasel may also be able to help.
- When asking for help or requesting things for your project please keep in mind a lot also, still, depends on your efforts. Attempt at learning the desired thing the best way-trial and error and browsing the documentation of whatever you're trying to grasp. Asking for help is generally considered as the last resort. You can't just do nothing and expect to get anything. Same goes for resources-pausing your project because stuff isn't being done for you by hired teamies is no excuse, it only stagnates your work, unless you're very much ok with that...
- With the recent addition of signatures, it's time to define some basic guidelines for sigs: please make sure your signature doesn't contain any large images, and that the total length of your signature doesn't go above half the length of a typical post. If your signature's longer than your post, then you're doing it wrong. Bear in mind that your signature is loaded every time someone sees your post, so be careful with large images, excessive animations, and anything else that could break other forum rules.
