Flickering... Just about everything

Post by Nimja »

When I try to run GZDoom, I run into many issues that make it unusable. Many lines and floors seems to flicker, sometimes do a HOM-like effect, sometimes act transparent, and sometimes become yellow (Which is also my "Menu Fade" colour if my memory serves me correctly). Similarly, text seems to flicker; random individual letters seem to flicker on and off, creating a strange flowing effect. I've tried updating my graphical drivers, but this has not helped (I am also told they are up to date). Strangely, Zandronum (2 and 3) seems to work fine in Software mode, but copying my .ini from zandronum to gzdoom has not affected these flickering errors.

This seems to have been reported before, here. (Well, here's some feedback)

EDIT: Sorry, I meant Zandronum in hardware mode.

1. What Operating System are you using? (Linux?, Mac?, Windows?)
2. What is your GPU make and model? (Intel HD 4000?, AMD HD 4850?, NVidia 800?, etc)
3. Have you tried running with "-gl2" and "-noshader"? What happens?

1.Windows 7.
2.Speccy tells me it's a "384 MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7310M"
3.It fares just about the same, although the "textures become yellow" issue seems less prevalent than before.

Another thing I forgot to mention that happens is that when I am hit many of the textures are tinted red and stay red, even when the red flash from taking damage should fade. These textures then flicker back to thier original texture randomly.

Currently, a 2.2 devbuild, but I've tried many other older (and stable) versions, none of them have worked.

Can you give a list of versions you tried?

I'm sorry,I honestly can't remember the exact versions I tried. If I remember correctly, the earliest versions I attempted to use were 2.0 and 1.9,if it helps (all that told me was that it's not an issue with my openGl version)

yeah im getting this too, Im trying to play the russian overkill mod and it wont run in g1.8.2 and the latest 2.1.1 will but it has MASSIVE texture flickering, like every letter on screen flickers randomly and the start up is all messed it. It looks like an N64 corruption or cart tilting.

Also, screw those damn spambot questions i have no idea what the answers are and it takes me like 20 attempts. Yeah im getting real fucking sick and tired of that damn capture, seems to of gone away after activated but holy god what a way to turn people off, all the questions were stupid and i had no idea what the answers we and no, im not gonna google it just for a freaking captcha.

Here is a screenshot from russian overkill in 2.1.1

Unfortunately, they are a necessary evil, but if you have any suggestions for improvement by all means voice your opinion. I tried to focus on questions that would be easy for anyone who's been playing Doom for at least a month or two, which is not an unusual expectation given the nature and longevity of the game.

Use 1.9.1 instead of 2.1.1 or even try the latest devbuild. But most likely 1.9.1 is enough in this case.

What happens when you play RO_pb_2.2.pk3 ?
That works for me.
