Re: Doom 4

Late reply I know, but I loved Doom 3. It didn't even come close to the originals of course, but it was a great run-through up to the Hell scene. I loved how you had to check in corners with your flashlight (as opposed to most wimps that need it on a gun) and the fact that as you got closer to Ground Zero (Delta Labs), things got more and more fucked up. After the really disappointing Hell scene, (seriously, classic Doom is STILL scarier in it's messed up Hell stuff, especially in Doom 64/Absolution. I prefer F.E.A.R. for that kind of stuff, or Silent Hill 2) I lost interest (although still beat it.) The multiplayer sucked too, that's a given.

That said, even if you don't care for the idea of a new Doom game, the Engine should be spectacular. Maybe we can stop covering everything up with lots of blurry and bright splotches? (I like bloom/blur, but games these days overdo it. Life isn't that blurry!) I had a lot of fun messing around with the Doom 3 engine, with pre-hand knowledge from working with the Quake 3 engine etc... was pretty fun.

I know that feeling. I got disappointed so often recently that I really don't see why I should waste 40-50€ for a new game. It gets particularly pointless if said games come with licenses that effectively prevent resale (HL2, for example - I won't bother with that one even for a reduced price.)

The only games recently that seemed to have decent replay value were the GTA series but it's just not my style

I hope it doesn't get to be one of those games with zero replay value like the majority of all games I play these days, far too many games focus too much on eye candy and too less on gameplay fun.

Will I like it, I dunno I sure hope so, if not I'll be back to classic doom in no time.

I wish it will look more into gameplay than graphics, and also make the spaces not seems like the max people allowed in a coop game seems like 1.

Almost as if we'd all seen it and commented on it already on zdoom.org and doomworld.com. :P

Short version of my reaction: meh, so what?

Doom3 was a bit poo. This might be good, but I don't hold out much hope for it and I'm certainly not getting excited about it.

I just hope it doesn't become an OTT hype-fest like Doom3 was, with every tidbit of information being reported on and debated right up until the disappointing final release.
