Odd, it doesn't do this to me.

There are many reasons why I don't use Explorer. This is one of them...

I followed this guide: http://www.tweakguides.com/VA_1.html to fix some of the annoyances, but there are some others left, which obviously have solutions too ;).

My initial frustration with Vista has subsided too. But, yes, it still has problems even after SP2. The silly "predict which type of folder you are using and apply changes then randomly forget folder view settings" is one, but there is a registry work around for it.

Occasionally going back to the default screen resolution is another common issue that, again, there is a tweak for.

One of my beefs is the removal of the hardware abstraction layer which thereby EAX effects in a significant number of games that I play unusable. This time, Creative's "Alchemy" program takes care of it and my machine is fast enough to not have some of the speed issues that some people have reported with this.

Other than a few times when other settings and so on were forgotten, stability has not been too bad but I didn't have any similar problems in XP in all the years that I used it.

It also starts relatively slowly and the hard drives chug away for minutes after startup. when accessing my secondary drive (which is not set to power down or anything) sometimes it can take ages to read it the first time that I try to access it.

It does have some nice features, like very quickly being able to open up a directory at the command prompt or go to the location of a found file but I'd already set things up like that in XP too.

But... yeah, it's not as good as it should be.

I think that windows vista has problems, but it's not that bad (at least after installing SP1), it has became more stable IMO, the compatibility issues still exist thought, but they have reduced considerable compared to the past. It has a long way to go, but it might never reach XP in any way (the same could be said of Windows 7 too).

UAC shows how Betruger is really evil. [/oldjoke]

The UAC hasn't caused me a single problem. Of course, I disabled it within minutes of starting Vista for the first time.

User Accounts.

That said, if you follow some simple guidelines (such as "never install any game you want to mod within C:\Program Files"), you can avoid most of the annoyances from UAC.

Vista's UAC is a perfect example of a good idea gone bad because it wasn't thought through.

You can also turn off UAC in Vista. It will solve a loads of Vista problems you never even knew it solved. It's in the User Accounts control panel.

Curious. I didn't have to do anything special with XWE. I just put it on my HD and ran it. It worked. (Vista Home Premium 64.)

Holy Shiz! It worked (XWE, that is)! Thanks man!
