BTW, Slade 3 can now play MUS, and convert it to MIDI prior to export as well. Just create a new wad temporarily, copy the MUS entries over, select them all, Right Click -> Audio -> Convert MUS to MIDI.

This is a really late reply, but I think I like Slumped much better than XWE as well. Although I learned my lesson on backing up files from XWE, that doesn't mean I want such a random unstable program that constantly corrupts my files. Slumped has never given me that problem, saves and imports/exports like 100x faster than XWE, among other things. I definitely like Slumped more at this point.

I ended up tryin MUS2MIDI but it didn't seem to work at all so I am now using Slumped. Which im starting to grow fond of,it seems a bit better than XWE ;)

Or in Slumped: right-click, export.

For playing midi files, you'll need a music player. If you use Windows, the Windows Media Player doesn't know what to do with them, so you'll need to download something else, like Winamp or whatever.

To listen to MIDI format within XWE I think all you need to do is double-click on the audio file.

To listen to MUS format music in a wad, you'll need a utility called mus2midi.exe. In XWE, select the file, click on Music on the menu bar, and select Play. [You'll need to configure XWE to identify the location of the music conversion utility.]

To save the file, select it in XWE, from the menu bar select Entry, then select Save As. It will save as lump (.lmp), which you can rename later or rename while saving.

Ripping MIDI files from WADs

I would like to rip some music files(MIDI in particular) from a WAD. I like a couple of the songs from the WADs Action Doom and Dark7,and I would enjoy listening to them at any time. I know you can view the music files from XWE but I dont know how to listen to,or retrieve the music files from there. Any help?
