Have you checked that brightmaps are enabled in the options menu?

You have added the brightmap pk3 to the autoload section of the .ini haven't you? that's how I did it and it works for me...but if you did and it still doesn't work I can't help you.

well, I've made some primitive brightmaps.. I save them in .png format and built a brightmaps lump, but it didn't work :?

it's strange, because I've loaded brightmaps.pk3 (the one that comes with GZDoom) and it didn't work too.. what's the problem?

off course, thanks for help me out Enjay :)

Your friend misinformed you. Brightmaps work in OpenGL, not software. There is a thing you can do with a custom colormap which doesn't rely on brightmaps and that would work in software mode but if you want OpenGL, go with brightmaps because they are far more flexible.

Well, as you can see, I want to make bright eyes on this Chaingunner... I think that it can be done with brightmaps, but a friend told me that brightmaps works in software mode only, and I'll need it in Open GL mode.. so, there'a a way to do that like this image? thanks :)
