The reason why the site costs as much as it does is because of the way it's hosted, not the site package. There really are not a whole lot of sites out there that allow you to run any service you need, however you need it. To be quite simple: I have to build the server from the ground up.

The reason why I would never go with a package like hostpapa is because I lose that freedom - and along with it, the ability to run Subversion, IRC daemons, bots, Skulltag master, and other programs. So yes, it really is a 'super special' package, in that it is entirely customizable.

Manc uses a similar service, except his is dedicated and has more HDD space and dedicated processor, etc.

Clearly, the site thing you linked is NOT the right way to go.

Your site provider must really be offering a 'super special' package, and at that price, getting the occasional donation of $10 or $20 will not stave off the eventual demise of DRDteam.

Obviously every dollar counts, maybe switching to another site like http://www.hostpapa.ca/?transaction_id= ... 7711110222 , who offer an exceptional package at 1/5 th the cost, would be the way to go. In that case I would donate gladly myself.

Or Manc might host it for free, since he is already hosting a slew of DOOM related sites, albeit their traffic is quite low. It wouldn't hurt to ask.

Where can this donation option be found anyway?

*EDIT*
Found the link. Just donated 10 $ .. I know it's not much, but as Enjay already said, the christmas month is a very large issue for me as well considering the amount of presents I had to prepare -_- But at least something I could help with :)

I'll chip in too just as soon as I can figure out how much money is left once everything relating to Christmas has been added up. Having a daughter with a birthday in December and who has just got old enough to drive punches a big hole in the finances. :?

I know of one other person who wants to contribute but who doesn't have a paypal account so I'll make a payment for them too (like I did before) when they confirm to me how much they want to donate.

I didn't know there were any issues (I don't frequent the main site, just make use of hosted sites/services).
Thank you, also, for the generous help. :)

Enjay wrote:What, if any, possibilities are there for a log term viable solution? Clearly donations have proven not to be practical, advertising hasn't raised enough revenue and expecting one person to fund it is simply unreasonable. Is there anything else that could be tried?
Honestly, I am not sure of the best way to answer that question. Money is a very touchy subject with a lot of people.

Good to hear. I'll keep GZDoom on my own site though, now that I have moved it.
