I'm sorry I haven't gotten around to the recordings yet, I need to soundproof my area first and stuff like that and find the time for it.

You could do that voice.
Lt. Col. Alvarez will not have a speaking role. On a related note, look what I found, dated October 10, 2020! We can take these as the final scripts. Rachael, if you wish, please go ahead and make your voice recordings for Col. Stinson. Please make separate audio files for each message, and please label the files in a manner I'll be able to easily decipher (e.g., Map25Msg1). Thanks.

Plot Summary:
Lt. Col. "Johnny" Alvarez, Ph.D. is a senior scientist in a military holding facility. He is accused of sabotaging experiments at the Black Mesa facility. He also has a track record of insubordination and challenging authority. As a result of the resonance cascade caused by Gordon Freeman, the jail doors malfunction and he manages to escape. Soon after he escapes he is contacted by Colonel Stinson, who works for an organization known as Legion Earth, which is dedicated to protecting mankind from alien threats. [Stinson, and Legion Earth, helped Dr. Rolf Bellmer escape Black Mesa after he succeeded in corrupting important data files.]

Col. Stinson wants Johnny Alvarez to enable satellite communication, and send a message to Far-Space Station Watchtower One. A massive invasion of Earth is being planned on Xen, and the scientists on the space station need to collapse all portals immediately.

MAP 24:
Message 1 (Col. Stinson)
"My name is Colonel Stinson, with Legion Earth. And you .... You're Lieutenant Colonel Alvarez. The infamous Johnny Alvarez who resisted authority. The same Johnny Alvarez who is accused of sabotaging experiments designed to let aliens roam the earth. But enough about you. What I am offering you is a chance to strike a blow against the corrupt governments who are lining up to lick the boots of the alien overlords. As a bonus, I'll keep you out of jail and prevent your swift execution. Think about that. I'll be in touch. Stinson out."

MAP 25:
Message 1 (Col. Stinson)
"You've had some time to consider my offer, and I'll assume you're on board. The mission is simple: Use satellite dish communication to send an urgent message to Far-Space Station Watchtower One. Tell them a massive invasion of Earth is being planned from Xen, and they need to collapse all portals immediately. Meanwhile, in case you're curious about who Legion Earth is, I'm sending you an UnderNet link that provides some background."

Message 2 (UnderNet)
"Legion Earth is an organization that was created to protect Earth from threats both extra-terrestrial and home-grown. Multiple governments are collaborating with an alien species in a Borderworld known as Xen, allowing the subjugation of humankind. We have engaged multiple agents in our efforts to stop this initiative, and have met with considerable success."

Message 3 (Col. Stinson)
"Special Ops has locked everything down and you'll need to get the encryption sequence before you can send the message out to FSS Watchtower One. Dr. Zimmerman .... he's the Administrator .... he's usually in the Lambda Complex. You can't miss him - big, bearded guy in a wheelchair. Ask nicely, and maybe he'll give you the encryption sequence. If you don't find him, keep looking."

Message 4 (Col. Stinson) [Return from Map 28]
"The Administrator was last seen barricading himself in the Lambda Complex offices. Get the encryption sequence and send that damn message out to the Far-Space Station. We'll have a helo standing by to evacuate you."

Message 5 (Dr. Zimmerman, Administrator) [Return from Map 28]
"I thought you were in lock-up, Johnny. The way things are going, it wouldn't surprise me if I'm next. But you're not here to shoot the breeze, are you? Say what? You need the encryption sequence, eh? What the heck ... here you go. The sequence is Charlie-Kilo-Tango-Alpha-29. You got that? And watch your back."

Message 6 (Col. Stinson) [After sending message to FSS Watchtower One]
"Things have gone sideways, and we can't get you out of there. Get back to the Lambda Complex Test Lab and use the portal there. We'll program in the coordinates to get you back to base for a debrief."

MAP 26:
Message 1 (Col. Stinson) [Enter Map 26]
"The Administrator has probably gone into hiding. Keep looking for him. Meanwhile, it looks like your only way forward is through the Radiation Lab, which is currently flooded with gamma rays. You'll need to activate the safety hoods and ventilate the chamber. Should be a piece of cake for you."

Message 2 (Sgt. Harrington)
"Ah, the infamous Colonel Alvarez. I've been tracking your progress since you broke out of the slammer. Let me guess. Your security clearance has been yanked and you want it back.... Okay, done! Use the console in my office to restore your security clearance. My security passcode is Zulu-Sierra-47."

Yes!

FWIW, I'm still working on the scripts. I haven't decided if the main character (Lt. Col. R. "Johnny" Alvarez, Ph.D Prisoner I.D. HK-420B) should have a speaking role. This requires quite a bit of thought, as we need to decide if the character ought to have one-liners only (a la Duke Nukem), or have some semblance of dialog. You could do that voice.

Col Stinson definitely has an extensive speaking (narrative) part, and Dr. Zimmerman makes an appearance.
I also definitely have a lot of good software tools that can enhance spoken word, deal with sibilance, and make the recordings sound pretty good quality/polished overall. I wouldn't be able to make a professional quality master, but I could probably enhance the voice acting recordings a bit. So if that's needed, let me know.
Enhanced recordings are always welcome. However, I don't have those tools and Dr. Zimmerman's voice might seem ragged compared to your character's voice.

FWIW I don't necessarily think Southern drawls sound "bad". I think Chubzdoomer has a really cool-sounding drawl (I think he's from Texas...?). I didn't notice your drawl in your voice acting of Col. Stinson in Paranoiac.

You all let me know if you need any additional voice acting. It would actually be pretty fun to do, and would probably take quite a bit less time than putting together music for Parallax does.

I'd actually be up to doing a little bit of voice acting nowadays if you need it. I'm kind of decent at imitating a Slavic accent or a Middle Eastern accent. I can also talk in my default, American accent, of course, and might also be able to assume the role of a character with a Southern drawl, though I'm probably the least proficient with that.

This appears to be a https issue. The forum for whatever reason is allowing non-https connections. I'll try and fix it so it redirects to https automatically. (btw it's good practice never to log in to non-https sites nowadays, browsers try to warn you about it)

And - done. It appears that phpBB3 now comes with its own .htaccess file and overwrites the one I had in place.

Excellent!

I'll send you the scripts for your review soon. We can discuss any edits you wish to make, and then you can record the scripts. Mapping in the Paranoia: Slight Return episode is mostly done, but it will still take me a while to put in the gameplay and do internal testing before the episode is ready for play-testing. As such, there is no flaming hurry to do the voice-acting.
Sorry about not frequenting this forum as much anymore; when GZDoom moved out it became pretty silent and a lot harder to remember to keep checking.
No worries. The only thing I might ask you to do is check your PMs on this forum. I am unable to stay logged in to these forums, and I had sent you a couple of PMs about this.

Voice-Acting For Parallax

by Rex Claussen » Sat Jun 20, 2020 17:58

The first episode of Parallax is Paranoia: Slight Return. As I previously indicated, the episode loosely recreates Paranoia within the Paranoid universe. The protagonist remains the same (Lt. Col. R. "Johnny" Alvarez, Ph.D, Prisoner I.D. HK-420B), and the game again starts with Alvarez in military confinement. The "resonance cascade" results in malfunctioning of the jail doors, and Alvarez is able to escape.

The objective of this episode is to disable satellite communication, so that Legion Earth (the organization in Paranoiac that helps Dr. Bellmer of Paranoid fame) can resist the evil alien overlords and their boot-licking underlings on Earth, thereby saving the planet, blah, blah, blah.

I would like to use a "handler", such as Col. Stinson in Paranoiac, who passes relevant information to the player via messages. Ideally, I'd like to use the same character (Col. Stinson) and the same voice actor (Rachael/Eruanna). However, in the event that Rachael is unwilling or unable to provide the voice acting I'm perfectly content to accept a suitable alternative. I will send Rachael a PM on ZDooM, as she doesn't seem to frequent these forums any more. But she might not be interested.

Accordingly, this is a shout out to anyone that wants to volunteer their voice-acting skills. The job is well-paying .... On second thoughts, the job is NOT well-paying; in fact it pays nothing at all. To boot, you'll get a cranky game-developer who is likely to get up in your business constantly because you've missed deadlines by a few hours. Etc.
