So, since I had been working on this, I noticed Hacx 1.2 does not have its own DMXGUS lump.
It might be an idea for the 1.3 update.

Huh, that's interesting. I never owned a GUS, though, so I'm not sure exactly what it sounds like on said hardware. Except good, probably.
The big question is where to get a DMXGUS lump, though I'm wondering whether it's possible to "legally" fudge it with the "Hacx was an official Doom Engine license" excuse and copy it from doom2.wad. Terrible, eh?

Well, the usual way to get a DMXGUS lump is just to grab an ultramid.ini off a standard installation and then tweak accordingly to prioritize the instruments used in the songs. To know which these are, you can look at this for a real-time display.
Fraggle has mentioned maybe making a mus/midi analysis script. That'd be helpful.
