.... Something Wicked This Way Comes [Released]

Post by Rex Claussen »

Welp, the game is now in the hands of beta-testers. I speak, of course, of By the Pricking of My thumbs ...., my 11-map set that is fully compatible with vanilla DooM. I'm hoping for a November release. November 2017, that is.

Meanwhile, I've tallied up my various mods, and with this game my total has reached 132 maps. Precious little to show for years in this grind, if you ask me. But that's the price one pays for a shot at 15 seconds of fame. [On a related note, my 10-map mod, Temple of the Ancients: Redux, is still in the wings, awaiting its cue to get on stage. But that's a different story for a different time.]

EDIT: The game has been released. The game may be downloaded here. The textfile may be reviewed here.

Nice release, as always, Rex! :)

Though I think it should be noted that Eruanna is not my real name. ;)

Just finished playing through this a few nights ago. Great work! Map06 and 07 were terrific! I like what you did with the Phobos/Doom 2 crossover with Map11. While I enjoyed Deimos: Slight Return and Infernos a lot, these maps have a lot more uniqueness to them while still retaining the element of nostalgia. If you have the inspiration, you should definitely make more map sets like By The Pricking of My Thumbs in the style/aesthetic of the later maps of Doom 2.

Thank you for your kind words, Jeff.

I did contemplate making more maps in By The Pricking of My Thumbs, but I got severely burnt out as I juggled that mod, Paranoiac, and Temple of the Ancients: Redux. At this point, given my job-related workload and my general DooM burnout, inspiration is a distant dream.
