I know a few people have spoken about this in the past but I don't *think* it has ever actually been requested. I know that development of new features isn't really happening at the moment either but, on the off-chance that doing this might be easy, (ie if current brightmap code can easily be enabled for model skins somehow) I would find it really useful if it was possible to use brightmaps for model skins.
