Re: [Windows Batch]Bootless Star - SVN Front End Compiler

Post by Tiger »

Bootless Star 1.2 is now released! This version contains a major foundation upgrade, easier flexibility for future expansion, and easier to understand (no more spaghetti code anymore!). Additionally, there has been major changes as to how the user configurations are managed. Instead of the configurations being centered primarily at the core, presets should now only be focused at the modules local directories. Users presets, however, that were designed from the previous versions will not easily work with this new update as some identifiers have changed. Moreover, this version includes general optimizations, additional features, and small security fixes. I hope everyone enjoys this version and really take advantage of this program's potential.

Spoiler: Changelog

NOTE: Please give me additional time to release the upgraded module versions of: Doom Builder 2, GZDoom Builder, and Doom Builder 64 - that will work with this Bootless Star version.

Just a status update, I am still working on the Doom Builder 2 [1.2] module.

Bootless Star [Doom Builder 2 - v1.2] RC3 Preview

This preview (merely a snapshot of the current state of the SVN revision) was not properly tested, thus use at your own risk. This build allows the user to cleanup the local directories, revised how the program will compile the software, and generalized bug fixes and improvements. Depending on how many bugs are found in this revision, I hope to have an official release by the end of next week-end (earlier if everything goes well).

Who likes good news - - - everyone?

GZDoom Builder, Doom Builder 64, Doom Builder 2 [yes, again] modules have been updated!

GZDoom Builder 1.3 and Doom Builder 64 1.2 updates
  • General update to work with the latest version of the Bootless Star core.
  • Rewrote how the program compiles the Doom Builder 2 software.
  • The program now properly adds the revision ID to all of the plugs and the core software.
  • The program now enforces the /LARGEADDRESSAWARE flag to the software core.
  • Improved how the program logs its activities
  • Ported the latest changes from the Doom Builder 2 module as the main foundation.
  • A lot of various other changes
Doom Builder 2 1.2.1 changes
  • Fixed some forgotten documentation...
  • The program would mistakenly thrash the wrong setup directory.
  • Declaration change.
  • VersionFromSVN is _very_ picky about fetching the revision from Subversion. Instead of the program fetching the revision ID, it will now forcefully use what revision ID is stored in the program instead.
    • I get different results on different systems - same setups, while the code is EXACTLY the same; results being: Nothing happens or it refuses absolute targets. I don't know why this is happening, but it did.

Just a small update for Doom Builder 2, Doom Builder 64, GZDoom Builder:

Doom Builder 2 1.3, Doom Builder 64 1.3, GZDoom Builder 1.4 updates:
  • Added the ability to view some local directories - within the Windows Explorer.
    • This will allow the user to view such directories when ever they need too, for whatever reason - without having to dig within the program's database.
  • Organized the main menu a bit.

A new version of Bootless Star is now available!

Code: Select all

Version 1.3 [revision 677]
==========================
--------------------------
17 Mar. 2014
----

* The core will now try to detect the extCMD Robocopy. This was added in to make sure that the host system actually had this program installed, as previous versions of Windows [Windows XP and earlier] did _NOT_ have this software bundled into the OS. However, it was possible to download it from Microsoft, if the user knew about it or even needed it.
* The core will now try to detect Python v2.7, and Python v3.3! The user also has the ability to modify the targets aswell.
* Added the ability for users to expeditiously install new scripts! The concept is to simply open a new window that directs the user to a specific directory, which from there they can simply drag-and-drop the batch script file.

A new version of Doom Builder 2, Doom Builder 64, and GZDoom Builder modules are now available:
  • Further improved the Self-Check process that is executed before compiling the main project.
Self-Thought:
I think these programs are now - complete, atleast - as far as I am willing to go with them.

I am going to stop working on the DeLorean backup program. I really have no more motivation anymore to continue 'dragging myself' to get these programs done. The stand-alone version of the DeLorean is still available for those that are truly interested in using it or wanting to update its foundation or improvements.

A new minor version of Bootless Star is now available:

Code: Select all

Version 1.3.1 [revision 706]
==========================
--------------------------
29 April. 2014
----

* When the detection is being set with the PathPython3, the default initialization was never set correctly nor in the proper Batch Sell syntax.
Note, I changed the topic to stay somewhat compliant to the 'Commercial Projects' rules; despite that this project is excluded, I decided to make it abundantly clear in the topic. I am on the fence on the term 'Software' with this program while using the "Free Open Source Source (FOSS)" terminology, but this is the only thing that comes close :\

A new module version of GZDoom Builder is now available:

Code: Select all

------------------------------------------------------------------------
r710 | tiger | 2014-05-08 12:26:49 -0500 (Thu, 08 May 2014) | 2 lines

Updated to meet the requirements for GZDoom Builder's project at revision 1949.
Set minor release to: 1.5.2.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
r709 | tiger | 2014-05-07 06:27:21 -0500 (Wed, 07 May 2014) | 1 line

Corrected the contents necessary; we need GZDoom Builder's resources, not Doom Builder 2 exclusively.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
r708 | tiger | 2014-05-07 06:26:13 -0500 (Wed, 07 May 2014) | 1 line

Redefined the core version required. It's no longer an 'absolute' necessary to use the one version and ONLY that version.

Re: [FOSS] Bootless Star

Just letting everyone know of some of the recent developments; I have begun (several weeks ago) working on the DeLorean (backup program). This program was going to offer a lot more backup modes, but I have decided to gut it and stick to the default backup procedures as before [mirror and then compact]. Furthermore, the Doom Builder 2 modules will also see an update. Though the update so far is more notably for stability improvements and very minor revisions. Additionally, as the DeLorean is rather intense with Robocopy, Bootless Star will have to under go a few more updates. The biggest change is going to allow the user to customize Robocopy and XCopy functionality. Another update is invoking Windows UAC, but I am still very unsure if I want to add it in....

That's the progress and ideas thus far.

I have recently updated three modules:
  • Doom Builder 2
    • Version: 1.5
  • Doom Builder 64
    • Version: 1.5
  • GZDoom Builder
    • Version: 1.6
This update mainly contains stability improvements and very minor changes within the code.

A new version of Bootless Star [1.4] is now available.

Code: Select all

Version 1.4 [revision 787]
==========================
--------------------------
23 May. 2014
----

* The program's title will now update and display what script\module is being executed.
* Updated the website location
* Corrected an unfinished comment in function ':ModuleUpdates_OpenWeb'
* Revised: !ERR_CRIT -> !ERR_CRIT!
* Changed the meaning of "Launch External Modules" -> "Run External Scripts"
* Changed the meaning of "Compile Project" -> "Run Project Module"
* Lowered the value of the variable defined "RoboCopyMultileThreads" which was previously '8' is now '2'. This should be much easier on abroad systems.
