This could well be related to the inventory icons problem mentioned in this thread:

and could therefore be fixed, but I'm not sure, so it's worth reporting just in case. I think a picture covers it.

Ooops, didn't mean to post here. As you say, saved you the bother of moving it though.

I wasn't sure if the things I had reported were one or two bugs. The thing I mentioned in the other thread was that inventory items (such as tome of powers, flechettes, health potions etc) were not showing up in alt-HUD. This report was that the weapon icons were not showing up either. Like I said, I wasn't sure if they were part of the same bug, or two separate issues.
