[1.0.21] "Freezing" during gameplay

While playing the game, either in singleplayer or multiplayer in any form (and using any IWAD) the game will, seemingly completely at random, "freeze" up. You will not be able to move, fire, or do anything really, but the music will keep playing for some time, then the music gets hung on a note and a few seconds later, everything will return to normal. Usually. Sometimes not, forcing a hard reset of my computer, since I can't close the game or bring up Task Manager.

I've got no idea what triggers this; it seems to be completely at random. It's quite annoying when it happens in a multiplayer game, as well.

I think I remember it doing this in earlier versions, as well, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Something's clearly broken on your system and I can't fix it. Can you give any further information?

I would if it output a log or something I could look at. Since it doesn't (logfile is useless as it's not saying anything but stuff in gameplay, and there is no other logging stuff unless I'm mistaken - if I am, by all means, tell me what I need to do/where to look to get it) about all I could tell you are my system specs, which are...

OS: WinXP Professional 5.1 SP2 (Build #2600)
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (Barton), 2.17 GHz
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT (1024x768x32bpp 100Hz)
Soundcard: SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro
Memory: 1024 MB/1 GB

Again, I have no idea what triggers it. It seems to happen completely at random. It happens in both Singleplayer as well as netplay.

It does seem to be somewhat more prevalent in places with animating floors, but this could just be me making foregone conclusions.

This is most likely caused by badly programmed background tasks, e.g. virus scanners and stuff like this.
