I am guessing since my old problem was a moniter issue this is probably the same, when i start up GZ doom on any IWAD(doom2,tnt, plutonia, and doom) my computer screen like goes in power saving mode, its on and it has an orange light, i can hear the game, and can even go to options, start a game, but my monitor is completely black, i cant even alt tab or window out of it, so i have Windows Task manager up on my Second monitor alt tab and cancel GZdoom, then my monitor comes out of "sleep mode" and it is fine.
if anyone needs more info feel free to ask.

Try setting gl_vid_refreshHz in zdoom.ini to 60 and see if it works.

this is the same problem i am having.
setting that to 60 did not help.
what's odd is that while gzdoom does not seem to work in and of itself, foreverhood (which uses gzdoom) runs perfectly.

The problem I have is whenever I try to go to OpenGL mode, the screen turns black, but with the menu bar on the bottom. Is there any way to fix it?

That sounds like problems with older hardware. What type is your graphics card?

An Nvidia RIVA TNT2/TNT2 Pro.

Try opening the console, enter 'gl_vid_compatibility 1', and start the game again. This card is rather old and probably doesn't properly support some features GZDoom needs.

Which console? I tried it on the GZDoom console and it's still in Software mode.
