All - rotating models changing shape

I don't really know whether I should class this as a bug but it is certainly odd looking at times and often undesired behaviour.
The example map that I posted here:

has a rotating model that is roughly sphere shaped. However, due to Doom's unusual 1:1.2 ratio (I think) models that rotate look as if they are changing shape (going from sphere to ellipsoid and back again) if they are set to rotate in anything other than the horizontal plane.
Apparently this requires "2 further fp multiples to be done for each vertex where not using the OpenGL functions. However, ignoring vtx lighting means the OpenGL functions can be used and it just requires one OpenGL transform."
Does that make sense? Anyway, I don't know how easy such a thing is but perhaps this could be looked at?
