Low Resource alternative to PSPX?

Advanced OpenGL source port fork from ZDoom, picking up where ZDoomGL left off.

Low Resource alternative to PSPX?

Post by Syfo-Dyas »

Does any one know any low resource alternatives to PSPX?

I am on a dual cpu 500Mhz system with 512 RAM, and it does not like the bloat to much at all!

What I am doing is making hi-res sprites and textures, so I need a very light weight alternative that will allow me to select background colors to serve as my "clear" space.

And I need to be able to work with PNG's in hi-color mode.

Any suggestions?

The only image program I can think of that works with high-color PNG's, outside of PSPX and Photoshop, is The Gimp - and that's even slower, given that it uses GTK.

So you're pretty much going to have to deal with PSPX's slowness.

IrFanview seems to be working, but I don't know how to set the background color to white to match my PSPX images.

Or if I create a new image, I don't know how to paste an images with transparent backdrop.

Actually I think I found what I need, now if I can get off the phone to test my findings :)

I hope this work because I really really miss my resources!!! Would be nice if everything still ran on Amiga and was programmed with resources friendlyness in mind.

Was IrFanview good enough?

If not, I'd suggest using an older version of Paintshop Pro. The program started being a horrendous, bloated system hog with version 8, so v7.04 is the one I'd recommend.
