Wether it's perfection or not is a matter of an opinion. His opinion is that it's awesome, ours may differ.

It's quite a shame there'd be no updating to SSD to be Gzdoom-friendly but as the author states it in the text files, no modifications to the maps, we have to respect it. Nothing we can do about it I'm affraid.

If we want to respect the intellectual property of a work, we can't do nothing else than to play something else...
A creator is the ONLY ONE to decide what can be done with his work.
If he states in his text file that we can't do modifications to his work, we have to respect it, even if we disagree completely, if and only if he is still involved with Doom.
A bunch of authors are no more involved with Doom, and they don't care anymore of what can be done with their work, as long as we respect them, distributing the text file, and explaining what was done exactly.
99% of the time, I receive emails from the authors discovering my update of their work, telling me that they were pleased with it, pleased also by my respect of their work and also by my respect of themselves.
It was, for example, the case of Bryant 'Gunrock' Robinson, the author of the "Dark7 Series", or of Toms Gailitis, author of "Tom's Road". Some others ask me to update their work, like it was the case with Ian Wilson, asking me to make a Doom Legacy version of his 2 megawads of the "Herian Series" (64 maps... ), or to give my approval for the quality of their work.

But...
CyB asked me to don't release my modifications of both of his megawads of the Massmouth Series, because he was planning to do it himself (thus nothing has been released yet), and I kept it for myself, thus I worked hardly on it, adding cool stuff and zdoom features, making of it a good demonstration of the zdoom capabilities.
CyB is THE author, and I have respected his volunty.
