[not a bug][0.9.6] Strange little boxes in the corners...

Post by BetaSword »

Out of curiosity and boredom, I decided to use some of the skybox textures from Cube and make a little test level thing, since GZDoom has true color. Well, it turned out pretty damn good, except for one thing: There are these strange little light colored boxes in all of the corners, exactly one pixel in size. And I know it's not just the textures themselves, as I have checked. Here's a screenshot of said odd occurance:

I've also included the map itself, although I had to split it into two because, even rared, it was too big (damn those .pngs).

I haven't the slightest clue as to what could be causing this. I have an ATI X700 card, Windows XP, gig of ram, all that good stuff. And I haven't noticed this before, either. Odd.

What's wrong in the picture? I can't see anything.

I see two little gray squares about a third of the way down the picture...apparently those aren't part of the sky (I thought they were stars at first).

Yeah, I probably should've circled them or something. Yeah, those two grey boxes are the boxes I speak of.

The 2 spots are pixels in the upper left and upper right corner of MARS_FT.png. They are clearly visible when loaded into a graphics editor.

Furthermore, you have to be careful with aligning textures like this. If you turn on texture filtering the seams between the faces of the cube become quite obvious. You can't just assume that people have it off - because most won't!

Ah... I never noticed those... Well then. And yeah, I play with texture filtering off, to keep that classic Doom look.

You have to test with filtering on and off. Otherwise you might create something others might not be satisfied with because it looks bad. In your case I recommend to make the 4 walls one large texture that wraps around. That should take care of the edges on these walls. For floor and ceiling you have to do a little more though to get it right
