then again you could say the same for nvidias DX support but then you are back to the old HL2 vs DOOM3 engine and its best just not to go there.

Is the OpenGL Developers Guide provided by ATI worth a flip?

Oddly enough, I have a GeForce 3, and I had this exact same error. ;)

The "ati" fix fixed it though.

It occurs on my laptops' graphic card, a SiS M760GX with 64mb Shared memory (oh the pain!).

Noticed it on the water when you stand in the doorway on map01.

Important announcement:

I really want to track down the problem. But for that I need help because I don't have an ATI card available.

If there is anybody with the mentioned fog problems in LTSD with some time and desire to help me, would you please come forward?

Hang on a while, some of us do have to contend with Real Life (tm) as well as playing Doom :) I do have LTSD somewhere, but haven't played it yet, and an ATI card, so I'll see if I get the problem. Just give me time, OK?

EDIT:

I tried LTsD at the point in E4M3 and didn't see anything "odd", but then again, I've never played a WAD with fog in it before, so I'm not sure exactly what I am supposed to see. The fog in the level looks natural enough to me. FWIW, this is what I get:

Image

EDIT:

The links to the test WADs are all broken. Graf, can you please post details of a specific example where somebody has reported the bug? I need

* download details of the PWAD
* location (coordinates, idmypos) where the bug is reported
* description of what I SHOULD see when viewing
* description of what is REPORTEDLY seen

Better still, side-by-side screenshots of what your system does and screenshots of what a buggy system does (if you can persuade the person who reported the bug to supply one).

I can then see if which effect I get on my mobile Radeon 7500.

The only reports I got so far are these pictures:

http://forum.drdteam.org/viewtopic.php? ... c&start=35

and the ones a few posts down. The errors are quite obvious.

The first one is in E4M4 and the others in E4M3 of LTSD. It's be great if you could verify these spots as well.

When you say "obvious", please remember that I don't know what it is SUPPOSED to look like; however, I got as near as I could find to the place given in that screenshot and had fog that suddenly flashes in and out of existence as a bright shard whenever the player moves. I assume that that is what is being referred to, so here's what happened:

Image

and after moving one step forward:

Image

For the other area, I could not find a spot that looked exactly like the ones shown in the screenshots. This is the nearest I could find to one of them (it's almost the same spot):

Image

As to the problem, if you mean the areas of solid white in the distance, they do, as you can see, occur, but not so badly on my system. This is about the best I can do; for anything else, we need people to post more screenshots together with the exact map details EXMY and IDMYPOS coordinates, if they want the bugs reproduced. C'mon guys, help us out :)

The problem I mean is that the fog covers only part of the polygon. In the bottommost screenshot the lower left part of the water should also be foggy.

It should look more like this:

OK, so my system does have a problem - what do you want me to do next, or does my screenshot tell you what you need to know?

Sorry :) Note that if I then try to run it again, I don't even get the crash; it just appears to start and nothing happens. This can only be reset by logging off then back on again. It will then crash if run again, then nothing, etc.
