1.0.29 Player.AttackZOffset does not affect the railgun

Post by Enjay »

Like the title says.

As you know, I've had problems trying to get damage types onto the railgun. My compromise is to fire some hitscans at the same time as the rail so that sometimes the enemy being shot at will be killed by the hitscans rather than the rail and therefore use my custom death animation. However, on changing the player view height and attack z offset, the hitscans are affected and raised, but the rail isn't. This means that the rail-trail is now too low in the player's view, makes a decal at a different place to the hitscans and hits lower than where the player is aiming too.

The pointers I'm using are A_FireBullets and A_RailAttack.

Does this happen in ZDoom also? If it does, I guess it would be a ZDoom bug and better posted there.

(Question applies to your other crouch bug report as well)

Not sure. I'm using the latest GZdoom but I haven't bothered with the Zdoom SVN versions (because GZdoom has them and is "official" whatever that means) so anything relating to newer code I only check in GZdoom.

I'm not sure what the reason for this being transferred to closed bugs is (something Randy needs to address?) but the problem still exists.

I reported it over at the Zdoom forum:

http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16046

And then later asked if a fix is likely to be forth coming (which I haven't had an answer to). The problem is, it's holding up the release of my WAD. If I know the bug is going to be fixed, then I will set the railgun to be a regular, proper railgun. If it isn't, I'll have to make up some fakey/hackey thing with bullet shots because the rail is hard to use with this bug in place.

I know you (Graf) are very busy and that Zdoom bugs have, understandably, had to take a back seat in light of recent events so I'm really just looking for some guidance as to what to do about the release of my WAD because I don't want to put it out only to find the situation changes a day or two after I do so.

Thanks.

Since this has been reported at zdoom.org as well I consider it a duplicate - more importantly a ZDoom-based bug.

OK, fair enough. :)

I'll ask over there again to try and find out what the best thing for me to do would be.
