[1.1.6] Access Violation on Deus Vult MAP04

Post by Ascension64 »

I get an access violation at the final area of MAP04 of Deus Vult where there is a clone of Sauron's tower. It seems to occur during the taunt sound, but I'm not sure if that is related. The crash doesn't occur on ZDoom 2.2.0. CrashReport.zip attached.

If I haven't reported something correctly, please let me know and I'll try and fix it up. Thanks.

1.1.6 is almost a bit ancient by now, though not totally. My question is, though... Does this happen still with the latest SVN? (It will be at the top of the list, btw)

No, it doesn't, thanks for the heads up. I usually stick with the official builds, although it seems I'll have to use r296 to finish the WAD. For curiosity's sake, was there a specific fix that corrected this problem?

A missing NULL pointer check in the boss brain code when there are no targets for the cube.

Official builds are fine, but SVN builds tend to be more stable and developed than the official builds. Strangely, the G/ZDoom devs (Randy and Graf) both manage to keep their development builds quite stable most of the time.

They have an obsession with cleanliness in their code, so that probably helps.

That's good to hear, and it might sway me towards using an SVN build, although I'm sure some of them might come with the silly mistake.

Oh, they do, but it's not very often that happens. Older revisions are kept on the site if it does, for approximately 2 weeks.
