In GZDoom, when you call up the Rocket Launcher or BFG, you have to wait until the weapon is all the way up on the screen before you can press/hold the fire key and have the gun actually fire.
However, in vanilla Doom (I think), Chocolate Doom, ZDoom 2.0.96, etc etc, as soon as you hit the key to call the weapon up (ie 5 or 7) you can press and hold the fire key to have either fire when it's loading animation is done.
With maps I've previously played, it doesn't matter much, but with new maps, it's quite a large nuisance.
