GZDoom 1.4.8 Inability to Launch, Possibly Compatiblilty

Post by Inferon »

Hello I was using a GZDoom build of around 1.3 or something a few months ago when I was running Vista. I've since switched to using Windows 7 and have tried to use the new version of GZDoom. However, every time I'm about to open up a WAD (it doesn't seem to matter what one) it crashes giving me an error code "C0000005 (Access Violation - tried to read address 00000004)". Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'll copy and paste the error log here:

Looks like the same old ATI bug. Use one of the more recent SVN builds which has this fixed.

Firstly thanks for the very quick reply! But what do you mean a more recent SVN build? I was under the impression I was using the newest version available.

http://svn.drdteam.org/

Click on the "builds" link below GZdoom. SVN builds are builds of the "work in progress" code rather than an official release but they are usually very stable.

You'll need 7zip (or a program capable of extracting 7z archives) to open the files.

Thanks for the link. I tried each version in the build section but each gave me the same problem.

I've tried each SVN build and each major release for GZDoom. Each still fails to load. I've tried ZDoom and it does work. Are there any other things that I could try that might work?

I just tried the newest SVN build and it crashed as before. Could someone help me or move this out of the closed bugs page to the bugs page?

Moving this out of here won't help you. The crash is inside the ATI driver where I can't investigate.

Which ATI driver version do you use? This has been an issue with versions 10.1 - 10.3 but 10.4 has been reported to work fine.

I have heard some horror stories about 10.5 and 10.6 though which apparently have OpenGL problems again.

I wonder, why not placing a kind of notice somewhere so that people can download the SVN build instead of posting bugs of the same crash?

Awesome. I update to 10.4 and it works flawlessly! Thanks a lot!
