Somewhere in the game there's some code that corrupts the heap. It has been there for a long time but so far I haven't found it. A few maps in Simplicity seem to be particularly susceptible for this. :(

The problem is that the crash and its cause are completely unrelated.

Mine also crashes on Map01 of Fragport and Mock 2. And for some reason it's giving me the "send error report to MS" window. Where's the Very Fatal Error window?

9.12 seems to work fine.

Mine crashed. :( Dunno if it's related to the same problem....

I was playing Batman Doom (http://www.doomworld.com/batman/main.shtml). I don't remember the number of the level but it was the 2d map towards getting Tally Man. The level had just started. I threw a batarang at an enemy high up and far away, and the game crashed when the batarang was in mid-flight about halfway to the target.

I used the ZDoom .DEH fix--found on that site--with the game.

I want to attach the archived Error Reports, but the archive-file is 1.18MB....

No need to post that. It seems that on some systems incorrect crash reports are written. That 1.2 MB file is useless for me.

@kc32: Are the crashes reproducable or random?

Okay.

Should I send any bug reports at all in the future? If so, when and how?

If you get crash reports that are short feel free to post them. I have no idea why it works on some systems and not on others. I think I restore the old crash log for the next version. This one is causing far too much trouble IMO.

They're VERY reproducible. For some reason it just crashes. Sometimes it only happens when I put a cheat in, though. No idea how to get the damn thing to cough up an error report, though. I'll mess around with it.

Crashes with 9.17 too, but Mock 2 seems to only crash when I'm using this dehacked patch.

Code: Select all

Patch File for DeHackEd v3.0

Doom version = 19
Patch format = 6

Thing 35 (Plasma Bullet)
Speed = 13107200
Bits = Rip +PCROSS +IMPACT +NOTELEPORT
Missile damage = 750
I found where it shows the old crash log, but I can't copy and paste it.

You are not supposed to copy and paste it. Attach the entire report to your post.

How the hell do I do that? Do you mean that temp file it makes when it crashes?

Just downloaded version 9.19. Still doesn't work with Mock 2, and all I get is the damn error message from Microsoft, not the Zdoom Very Fatal Error.

Ok, I might have found something useful now. I made an alternate version of the above patch that doesn't change the speed of the plasma ball, and it doesn't crash. Is there some sort of speed limit on dehacked patches?

I've also noticed that when I set the speed to 13107200 the plasma ball will hit a ledge instead of going over it and hitting the target.

Don't mention any high speed inaccuracies for projectiles. Fixing that requires a complete rewrite of the movement code and that won't happen for various reasons.
