Looking for Soundtrack - Map 12

Post by Dr_Nostromo »

Hi, gang

The original sound guys on Hacx is putting together some remixes of the original soundtrack and currently nobody can find the sound files for Map 12 (Gothik Gauntlet).

Does anyone else have them or can they be extracted to an MP3?

Thanx!

It'd be a simple matter to run 'em through a good soundfont, though that'd only sound as good as a basic soundfont-render would be.

I'll forward this along to Jimmy, though, since he's our resident MIDI expert. He may be able to take it a step further (and even if not, he'd probably do a better job than I would :P ).

Great to see this happening, after all. Definitely sign me up for a copy. ;)

Yes it's level 16 Protean Cybex which I need to complete the sound track DVD I am planning. It's all done except for this level. I need the .mus file; Is it difficult to extract a specific .mus from the wad?

Complementary DVD to the kind sir that comes up with this!

I don't know squat about wads and what not, but I have an idea that HacX levels get related back to the original DOOM file names like this:

H level Level Name WAD-MUS

HLevel-01 GenEmp Corp .........18 D_RUNNIN.MUS
HLevel-02 Tunnel Town .........21 D_.STALKS.MUS
HLevel-03 Lava Annex .........3 D_COUNTD.MUS
HLevel-04 Alcatraz .........1 D_BETWEE.MUS
HLevel-05 Cyber Circus .........10 D_DOOM.MUS
HLevel-06 Digi-Ota .........25 D_THE_DA.MUS
HLevel-07 The Great Wall .........19 D_SHAWN.MUS
HLevel-08 Garden of Delight .........5 D_DDTBLU.MUS
HLevel-09 Hidden Fortress .........13 D_IN_CIT.MUS
HLevel-10 Anarchist Dream .........6 D_DEAD.MUS
HLevel-11 Notus Us! .........22 D_STLKS2.MUS
HLevel-12 Gothik Gauntlet .........24 D_THEDA2.MUS
HLevel-13 The Sewers .........11 D_DOOM2.MUS
HLevel-14 'Trode Wars .........4 D_DDTBL2.MUS
HLevel-15 Twilight of EnKs .........17 D_RUNNI2.MUS
HLevel-16 Protean Cybex .........7 D_DEAD2.MUS
HLevel-17 River of Blood .........23 D_STLKS3.MUS
HLevel-18 Bizarro .........16 D_ROMERO.MUS
HLevel-19 The War Rooms .........20 D_SHAWN2.MUS
HLevel-20 Intruder Alert! .........14 D_MESSAG.MUS
HLevel-21 Dessicant Room .........2 D_COUNT2.MUS

Not at all. It's exceedingly easy.

Get the latest build of SLADE 3, drag and drop hacx.wad over it, and you will see the list of all "lumps" contained in it. You can then extract whichever you want.

Is this going to be a true DVD-Audio release?

Yes, if all goes well. I plan to use Amazon's Create Space fulfillment. I have a few CDs available there, but have not done a DVD yet.

Also, I guess it's maybe not a "true" DVD-audio, depending on what you mean by that. It's really a simple slide show with audio.

I was referring to true DVD-Audio. I haven't worked with Amazon's services before so I don't know exactly what's possible, but I would imagine it's possible to master a DVD-Audio disc through there. At least if your equipment is able to produce at a higher resolution than 48khz/16-bit, it would benefit from doing so.

On a side note I'm kind of looking for a DVD-Audio release which I could use a test subject for my car computer project, so that's why I'm asking. :P

My brother owns a 28 year old car (300ZX Anniversary edition for the curious) and the radio started having intermittent issues. Finally the on/off switch stopped functioning (it was permanently on) as well as the tape player, so we're replacing it with a car computer. This way we can have a large solid state hard drive to store music on as well as support automatic CD/DVD-Audio ripping (as well as bluetooth, auto equalization, and any other fancy things you can do with a computer). Not a whole lot to talk about, but since CD drives aren't any cheaper than DVD drives we might as well support DVD-Audio in it as well. The great part is the spot in which the original radio was is just the right size for a Mini-ITX motherboard.

The difficulty in my quest to support DVD-Audio though is there aren't a whole lot of releases that support it. Makes sense since CD quality is probably high enough for most uses, but it is kind of a shame that it seems like most of the audio specific DVDs (take "Weird Al" Yankovic's Straight out of Lynwood album for example) only have a DVD-Video track when an audio standard has already been defined. (DVD-Audio discs can contain a DVD-Video track for backwards compatibility.) From a quick search (I haven't really done a whole lot of research on this yet) it seems like a lot of the interesting DVD-Audio releases are collector's items now, but I do know that Nine Inch Nail's The Downward Spiral has a DVD-Audio version (but that's only 48KHz 24-bit IIRC).
