Map Exit Issues, A minor graphics glitch

Post by Dave_B »

Hi

I'm having a couple of problems with the latest version of GZDoom (version 1.2.0.1). The 'exit level' function in ZDoom format levels that aren't part of a hub is behaving as if it were, meaning there is no stats display and keys collected are carried on to the next map. Also, I'm having some issues involving doors. Moving further away from a door results in a garbled texture fading in in front of the door. Weird. Anyhow, here's the technical specs of my PC, for the purposes of troubleshooting:

OS Name: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Version: 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600
System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
System Model: Presario V2000
Processor: x86 Family 15 Model 44 Stepping 2 AuthenticAMD ~1794 Mhz (Sempron)
Total Physical Memory: 768.00 MB (640MB System, 128MB Shared with Graphics)
GPU: ATI MOBILITY RADEON XPRESS 200
Adapter RAM: 128.00 MB (134,217,728 bytes)
Installed Drivers: ati2dvag.dll
Driver Version: 6.14.10.6891
Resolution: 1280 x 768 x 60 hertz

In a nutshell, it's gutless.

Hopefully this will help, especially with that minor texturing glitch.

This sounds very much like a bug that was fixed recently. If you want to try one of the SVN builds you may find that the problem has gone.

Yes, definitely the same thing. I can't say anything about the graphic glitch and I neither can reproduce it nor have ever heard of it before.

Sorry if this is frowned upon, but I'm resurrecting this long-dormant thread because I, too, am seeing the door texture glitch described by the OP. It's as if some random texture gets placed in front of the door, but fades out as you approach:

From MAP03 of Perdition's Gate:

From MAP01 of New Doom:

The disappearing textures are different every time I load up GZDoom.

I'm trying to play around with my video card driver to see if that fixes it, but I'm no expert at that stuff. Also, I'm moving to a new machine soon, so we'll see if that affects anything.

I tried Perdition's Gate and I am not seeing this problem (ie "works for me").

Which version of GZDoom are you using? The most recent official version is here:

http://www.osnanet.de/c.oelckers/gzdoom ... 1-6-00.zip

And the most recent SVN builds can be got here:

http://svn.drdteam.org/gzdoom/

If you are not already using the newest version, please try one of the above and report back.

With a thread this old, it may have been a better idea to open a new bug report. However, seeing as how there was no information about the GZDoom version, I've kept this all together - at least until it can be established whether or not a new version of GZDoom solves the problem.

I've been running I think the next-to-newest GZDoom (1.5.8?) though I actually downloaded 1.6.0 the other day just to see if it fixes this, and it did not. I'm assuming it's something on my end, drivers or something, and that setting up my new computer (which I really need to do one of these days) will fix it.

It's actually a more bizarre bug than my screencaps make it seem: I've been playing a dozen or two megawads over the past couple weeks, and I get this in every single one. It usually only affects doors and windows, but I've seen it do walls as well. Perhaps the weirdest part is, it's not like the correct texture is being replaced by some random other texture, but by a screenshot from within the game or maybe from a different game: I've seen wall textures replaced with a closeup of Shotgun Guy's face, and doors replaced by a group of Imps as seen from behind!

I've made a discovery: the bug disappears if I set the Texture Filter Mode to Linear. Setting it to Bilinear or Trilinear brings the bug back.

Ouch! That sounds like a bug with the graphics driver. (Par for course with ATI/AMD, unfortunately, when it comes to OpenGL support...)
Older ATI cards had notorious issues with textures that have sizes which are not a power of two. However, to support OpenGL 2.0 they reported this functionality anyway as it looks.

Now the bad news for you: This card has been considered deprecated by AMD for quite some time - and it's rather old - so I'm not going to add a hack to the engine to circumvent the problem.

The one advice I can give you is to check if you got the latest driver, and if not, update it.

Thanks for the response, Graf. I just set my new machine up yesterday (holy crap I am lazy) and everything works fine. (Well, except for one small thing that I'll start a new topic for later.)
