I decided to try and get MD3's working by using a model replacement for Q3A that I got from Polycount. Thing is, though, it's really glitchy - for one, the model doesn't seem to even display properly. I've attached a ZIP file containing a screenshot of the error, and the PK3 file containing all necessary resources to test the error.

To test the model, open the console and summon "AwexomeShotgun".

My system is a 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 with hyperthreading, 512 MB of RAM, and a GeForce FX 5200 (128 MB) running Windows XP Home with Service Pack 1, DirectX 9.0c.

You have to use at least the correct frame name or index. If you use frame index 0 instead of frame name "spawn" which doesn't exist in this model the weapon looks ok.

I added the missing error message though.
