Get/SetCameraViewPitch(int tid)

Post by solarsnowfall »

Sorry to repost a feature suggestion, but the last time it made an appearence as on off-shoot to a rather missguided feature suggestion. From the last discussion, it sounded like a relatively simple thing to do. Obviously forcing a camera's view pitch would be less important than being able to monitor it. For one, it would provide a means of having two dimensional input from the mouse for ACS scripts. In theory one could do all kinds of things...
  • Navigate hud menus without pesky key binds
  • Place hud cursors over special items
  • Make a lock-on aiming style ala Metroid Prime
  • Control flying objects via mouse input (aim guided rockets)
  • Make a simple 3d lens flare effect using translucensy
  • Limit the aiming pitch on a weapon specific basis, for weapons with ultra high speed projectiles, or for static turret guns
I really think it would be a good oppertunity to extend more modern effects to G/ZDoom. Please consider it.

Yeah, this really would be a good idea, particularly "Get"; I can't foresee the player being too affected by simply montoring the pitch, and it gives editors a new dimension to work with.

In my opinion, I never really saw the fuss about setting the view pitch. It's no different than being able to set angles for the player which is already possible.

But what about the mouselook issue? I see it this way: If has mouselook disabled and this feature is abused? Don't play the wad!

Since this is a duplicate of a request in the ZDoom forums - off this goes.
