Is there a way to determine the wad version?

Advanced OpenGL source port fork from ZDoom, picking up where ZDoomGL left off.

Is there a way to determine the wad version?

Post by bfollowell »

I am new to GZDoom. After so many years of playing newer, flashier games, it's nice to return to some older classics.

I'm curious, is there a way, possibly a console command or something, to return the version of the wad you are playing? For example, to determine if I am using an older 1.4 version wad or if I'm running 1.666?

Thanks to anyone that may know.

Yes, there is. The simplest method is probably to use a program such as Hash My Files to get the checksum of the IWAD in question, and then compare it to the values given here (follow links to individual IWAD, like DOOM.WAD for Ultimate Doom or DOOM2.WAD for Doom II).

The other method is to pay close attention to the details of some levels and use that to pinpoint which version it is. There's some videos that may help if you aren't super-familiar with these changes.
