[g2.1.pre-62-gfd3128a] Dynamic Light Bugs

Post by Rachael »

Spoiler:
There is a problem with dynamic lights on ATI's in this build; they do not show on walls and flats. Attached is screenshot with a file containing a quick demo (probably not needed), my system specs, and a log file that should hopefully show what GZDoom was doing.

Sorry the screenshot isn't showing as much as I'd hoped; but it is showing how the plasma light is showing on the gib material but not on the flats directly underneath of it.

Just to note, I have a Radeon HD 7670M; I didn't run into this issue.

Sorry for bumping but I just wanted to help narrow down this problem.

I have a Radeon HD 6570 and I too have this bug.

Are any of you using some third party stuff that may affect graphics? I am asking because there already was another problem that could be tracked down to MSI Afterburner not playing nice with modern shader stuff.

Also, what driver version? The fact that it got only reported by two people so far is a good indicator that this is not a common AMD problem but something system specific.

Well, I just upgraded my graphics driver a few days ago just before I tested to see if the bug was still there, but anyway...

I'll just copy what Catalyst Control Center says (though I think the version would be 14.4?):
CCC wrote:Driver Packaging Version 9.00.100.9001-131223a-171234E-ATI
Catalyst™ Version 14.4
Provider AMD.
2D Driver Version 6.14.10.7279
2D Driver File Path System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Video/{B335ED0B-17C2-499F-A346-D8F266C0A3E9}/0000
Direct3D Version 6.14.10.0962
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.11927
Catalyst™ Control Center Version 2013.1223.216.3934
Since I'm a bit of a ingnoramus about things like "third party stuff that may affect graphics", could you please give me some examples? EDIT: To clarify, I don't have MSI Afterburner.
EDIT2: I don't think I have anything that might overclock the graphics card, if that's what you mean?

Actually while I'm here I might as well post my specs, just in case it helps:

Windows XP Professional SP3 (32-bit)
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3800+ 2.40 GHz
2 Gigs of RAM
Physical Address Extension
AMD Radeon HD 6570

I need more info about your driver. That snippet doesn't tell me enough. 14.4 is April 2014, right? Have you tried to update it?

I think I already did update to the latest driver by the time I made my previous post. I usually get my updates by going here: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

After specifying what my system and gfx card are, I get this: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/d ... erver=true
(To be clear, I haven't downloaded anything from the "optional downloads" page. Not sure if that's relevant or not.)

So, unless I'm getting my updates at the wrong place, I think the latest version is the April one.

At any case, I noticed you said in this ZDoom thread you'd like a GZDoom startup log and a DxDiag log.
(I know you were talking about the OP's logs, but I thought it wouldn't hurt if I provide my own.)

Here you go.
Quick edit: The startup log is from g2.1.pre-105-g57895d6

So, where DID you get them from?

Um, here?
I a little while ago wrote:http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
I only ever download the graphics driver for my graphics card from there.

Am I missing something? Is April not the latest version? I honestly don't get what you're trying to say.

EDIT: I did a quick google search... Some sites I visited seem to have a version (of the driver) which was uploaded around December 2013. One site called driverscape.com only shows the file version for the installer to be 8.3.5 but doesn't say when it was uploaded, so I feel reluctant to download from there.

EDIT2: Speaking of driverscape.com, the other drivers for operating systems other than Win XP do show a release date. Two of these release dates are 2014-04-17. One for Win 7 32-bit and Win 8 32-bit, the other is for the 64 bit version of the same two systems.

Bottom line is I can't find anything more recent than April 2014.

Can you please retest?

There was another problem that was caused by GLSL 1.3 and uniform buffers not playing along.
I now have a check for availability of GLSL 1.4 in there so I'd be interested if it solves this one, too.

I've just tested g2.1.pre-127-g066e53a and I'm sorry to say this but the bug still persists.

Hello,

Sorry to intrude on this post, but I was the fellow the other day who also reported this bug and forgot to include the information pertaining to my graphics card, drivers and the like. In this post I have included the documents that were requested earlier. I also recently tested the newest version of GZdoom (gzdoom-g2.1.pre-131-gbca47bb.7z) and the issue remains the same.

Thank you for your time

Like FishyClockwork, your driver appears to be a bit old.

I just checked AMD's download size and the latest driver available should be from Sept 2014. Right now I can't even tell if it's a driver bug or a general problem so I need one of you to install the most recent driver and report back.

Ok, good to know. Can you still please make one more test and start GZDoom with the '-gl3' command line option?
I'd like to know if it got fixed by using the GL 4.4 core render path or by really doing something that addresses the underlying problem.
