I've looked at some HL modes dn their sprites that always face the player. Indeed, taller sprites looks very strange when you look down on them. For example. the bottom parttfs of a fire sprite seems to move towards the player as you look down. However, maybe this can be fixed if the axis of rotation that turns the sprites towards the player is placed on the lowest part of the sprite instead of the middle? This way, the bottom of the sprite points towards the player and wont cause the effect of the thing "flipping" like the HL sprites.

Even nowadays, most games still use sprites - mainly for special effects, explosions etc.

ok, if we can't support voxels, how about a voxel to model converter? :)

Sprites look better anchored to the floor. I've seen both, try flying above some trees and looking down with the method yall are suggesting and you'll see exactly what Graf means when he says it looks ugly.

If you need a good reference point, look up gather2.wad, if you can find it on the internet. Load that up in GL mode and fly directly over the trees near the beginning of the first map. They're much much better anchored to the ground - still ugly, but not nearly as bad as the solution some of you are suggesting.

It only looks bad if the sprite's axis of rotaion is it's center. it's it's at the foot of the sprite,it doesn't look that bad at all. As flor flying over trees, I'd rather see a tree than not seeing one at all.
