Oh, that doesn't sound promising for a fix. :(

In case it helps, I went to an area in Z1M1 where the effect is particularly bad and fiddled around with my OpenGL settings. I tried cycling all the menu choices through their various options and 2 of them seemed to have an effect. In each case, I set my options back to normal (pretty much the default settings - I think) and then cycled through the options for that particular menu item.

I was just looking at the flickering effect through the menu, I didn't try much playing, so I can't say that these are definitely a fix, but the following settings had these effects:

Texture Filter Mode

The flickering still happened, with no obvious change, with the following settings:
Trilinear
Bilinear
None (mipmapped)

The flickering appeared to stop with the following settings:
Linear
None

Setting things back to normal (ie with flickering) I moved on and the next setting that had an effect was "Texture format".

Texture Format

The flickering still happened, with no obvious change, with the following settings:
RGBA8

The flickering appeared to stop with the following settings:
RGBA2
RGBA4
RGB5_A1

No other OpenGL options appeared to make any difference to the flicker. I will now try some of these options that appeared to stop the flicker more extensively and report back if there is anything worth mentioning.

The above tests were carried out where the screenshot below was taken.

Out of interest, I went back to 1.0.29 and went to the same area. No onscreen flicker, but with a smaller than full-sized screen, whilst I was in that area the problem as it originally was reported occurred:

Fiddling with the OpenGL settings that seemed to affect the flicker with 1.0.30, however, seemed to have no impact on this particular manifestation of the problem in 1.0.29. :?

Back to 1.0.30 and the flicker. Interestingly, the flicker effect looks as if it might only exist in full-screen modes. ie HUD and AltHUD show the flicker but it appeared to stop with the status bar and smaller (kind of the opposite to what it was doing in 1.0.29). Again, I'd have to test that more extensively to be sure the flicker had gone with that screen setup.

Although I'm sure this will come as no surprise, I'm just posting to say that this one is still alive and kicking in r44.

I also thought I'd mention that I think another manifestation of it is visible in the KDiZD intro. At about 10 seconds into the titlemap, there is a fight just finishing between some imps and some marines and then the view switches to a front on picture of the space marine. Particularly around this time, there is some noticeable flickering and it is much bigger than just the bottom left corner of the screen. Again, only texture filtering modes "Linear" and "None" stop it happening. What do those 2 modes do (or not do) that the others all do?

They don't use mipmaps.

For info, the latest nvidia drivers (175.16) do not fix this issue.
