[r153] sound bug

Post by deded007 »

When playing Demon Eclipse episode1 map1,(MAP01) at some point in the level it starts playing sounds. like any and all sounds. as in i hear imp sounds, ambient sounds, elevator sounds, cyberdemon sounds, and weird blips and screeches and static. this will happen for about 15-120 seconds, for no apparent reason, and then crash.

CRash how? Do you have a crash log? Is this reproducable? If so, in a specific location? Missing 3D floors aside, does this happen in ZDoom, too?

happend twice so far, will post crash log, seems to happen after a certain time in the level, or after you pass a certain point. about after you turn on the generators, and go into the yard, but has occured later in the level.
i am attempting to replicate it now.

Happened in Action Doom 2. Crashes Office (MAP10)
[r161] has this bug as well.

Screeched then failed.

I'm sorry but I can't help you with that. It crashes in FMOD's internal thread so it's most likely not related to GZDoom's own code.

crap. it never happens when you want it to, and then catches you off guard when you least expect it.

Fix:
1. Making Lots of noise can stop the crash if you're in a gunfight.
2. Saving when you hear the noise, and then loading back also works.
3. Don't use FMOD.

I've also experienced this a few times in my "Rise of the Dead" mod. It's very hard to trigger, but it has happened to me like about 10 times since the mod was started.

Basically what happens is that the sounds that were previously played, are replayed in a funny pitch (it certainly gave me the creeps the first time I experienced it, as I was like "WTF I DON'T REMEMBER DEFINING SUCH A SOUND!"), then GZDoom finally crashes.

It's very hard to reproduce. Sometimes I can play my mod for about 40 minutes and it doesn't crash. Sometimes it happens early on. It's totally random.

Ya, it scared me half to death when it happened to me. Last time my computer screeched like that, It's Internal Organs Fried to a crisp. It took 5 months to get it fixed.

Didn't there used to be an option for what sound system to use?
I remember setting mine to a vista something...

Happened about 17 times in TUTNT.

Yes, you can change between DirectSound and WASAPI (all others won't work properly.) If you have problems you should definitely try the other one on Vista.
