The sky seems to get the most improvement... the water/lava/floor textures look rediculously awful...Nash wrote:Hmm, I thought it was obvious.
I simply fail to understand people who see any beauty at all in those horrible textures!
(Well, the only beautiful texture in that screenshot is the sky!)
Actually, I wonder what the HELL the texture authors were thinking when they drew them.

It seems to be obvious: They wanted something with more pixels. But the motivation behind this reminds me of the attitude of people who insist on watching fullscreen movies. They just don't care about artistic values like image composition. It isn't important how the whole is looking as long as the immediate result is 'more'.
I really hope that someday there will be a hires texture pack that is actually faithful to the originals and doesn't crap-ify the levels you play with them. But the amount of inconsistencies in here and the liberties taken with altering the contents of the textures makes it a big failure in my eyes.
A good example are the crates. Sure, there's nothing wrong with the textures by themselves. But they don't bear the slightest similarity with the originals and all the crate levels designed with the originals in mind get screwed up. E2M2 with these textures is just

I completely agree with you Graf (I don't use it (or the current jDRP
) myself either). The current hires texture set has three main problems:
What the jDTP needs is someone acting as Artistic Lead to unify the whole thing and to chuck out any sub-standard work. Chilvence decided to take the bull by the horns but he doesn't seem to have the spare time he once did. I intend to do just that once I can finish some of my other current projects. When people are contributing stuff for free you need to have something better in order to chuck their work out otherwise you get into all kinds of inter-personal problems.
Another problem is that there are far more end-users who would prefer having the "obviously Photshop Filtered Crap" than nothing, so they HAVE to put that stuff in the pack until they have something better.

- Inconsistent style (and most don't even use a style that fits in with (let alone compliment) DOOM)
- Unfaithful to the originals
- They don't work together as a set.
