Doesn't Complete Startup with My ATI Video-Card

Post by WinstonSmith6079 »

I've downloaded the latest GZDoom (now v1.408) and it won't start. I run the .EXE via Unleashed and the screen rez will change, but then GZDoom crashes resulting in that Send Error Report dialog box.

I know that it has to do with my video-card, an ATI Raedon HD 4670 for AGP with 1GB VRAM. This same occurance has been happening with the last several versions of GZDoom. GZDoom was working fine until I changed my video-card to the afore mentioned. At the time, there was stuff in the .INI file that I could look at and change. When I changed the rendering to software-rendering (I don't remember which parameter's value I changed), GZDoom worked again, albeit in software-rendering mode, not OpenGL 3D-rendering mode.

Well since I've upgraded the GZDoom several times since then, there's nothing in the .INI file at all that I can do what I did before. Totally blank, it is.

Is there some way that I can get GZDoom to boot up in software-rendering mode so that it will at least run at all? If so, what? Even better, how can I get GZDoom to work in 3D-rendering mode again?

Please help! I've not been able to play a Doom game for months! PLEASE! :(

There are known problems with recent ATI drivers. It seems that something broke when they added OpenGL 3.3/4.0 support. If you want the software renderer start it with '+vid_renderer 0' on the command line.

The first thing you should do is make sure that you are running the most recent Catalyst version. I got reports that 10.3 is working again.

You might also try downgrading the drivers if that does not help. The problem is fairly recent and to my knowledge was introduced in the 10.2 driver version.

I'm using the latest drivers (which are v10.3) but am getting the same bug that I was getting with drivers v10.2. I started asking about v10.1 drivers for AGP in the thread at the following link:
http://forum.drdteam.org/viewtopic.php? ... 1&start=15.

Yep, it sure would be great to play with GZDoom in 3D-rendering again, yep. :(

OTOH, thanks for the info on how to get it to run at all in software-rendering. :)

GZDoom is great! Keep up the good work! Graf Zahl rules! :D
